What to Look for in Essential Oils

What to Look for in Essential Oils

Nowadays Essential Oils are everywhere!  Some gas stations even sell essential oils.  Weird right?  It used to be that you had to search out an herbalist or a funky hippie natural grocery store.  The question is how do you know that the Lavender Essential Oil for $23 is any better than Lavender Oil for $8.95 at Walmart? We are here to answer that question.  At NuYu Wellness we are Essential Oil junkies.  Oils help heal your sore muscles, rejuvenate your skin, change your mood and calm your anxieties.  We use them in massages, facials, foot scrubs, diffusers, and drinking water.  But that is where you need to be careful.  Using Essential Oils internally can really help-- and hurt.

What's Wrong with Essential Oils?

Many essential oils are heavily contaminated or adulterated with synthetic chemicals. Many Essential Oils say Natural or All NaturalI but what does that really mean?  Does natural mean safe?  Not really.  Here is how the USDA defines natural.

Natural: Food labeled "natural," according to the USDA definition, does not contain artificial ingredients or preservatives and the ingredients are only minimally processed. However, they may contain antibiotics, growth hormones, and other similar chemicals.

Yuck! No one wants extras in their all-naturalessential oils!!To make sure the Essential Oils you purchase are safe to use for you and your family you need to know about their purity. Plus, why use something that is "watered down" and does not work.Safe+Effective= a quality Essential Oil.

What to Look for When Buying Essential Oils

OK, OK, if the label all-natural really does not tell you anything about the purity of the oils then what does?  At NuYu Wellness we tested a lot of oils.  After a lot of research and testing, we believe that the doTERRA oils offer the purest most natural oil on the market. doTERRA ensures their quality by asking the following questions about any of the oils they develop to sell.

  • Sustainable and responsible sourcing (Where do their oils come from?)

  • Extensive and thorough testing (Do they test their oils for adulteration and contamination?)

  • Clear and accessible safety and usage information (Do they show customers how to use the oils safely?)

  • Transparency (Do they use third-party testing? Do they make test results public?)

These are the questions you should ask before you decided on your oil purchase.
