What Type of Training Has Your Massage Therapist Received?

No matter what type of massage you are looking for, deep tissue, Swedish massage, Thai Massage or hot stone massage, it’s important to know whether or not your therapist is a trained and licensed professional. In the state of Colorado massage therapists are required to be licensed. Licenses are given under the jurisdiction of the Colorado Office of Massage Therapy Licensure.

In order to receive a license, massage therapists in Colorado are required to undergo training at a board certified institution for therapeutic massage and body working. Most programs require a minimum of 500 hours of training in order to ensure therapists understand the human skeleton, muscles and more. After they complete their program they must take an exam to verify that they are qualified to perform massage on clients and a background screening is conducted. Therapists are often required to attend continuing education programs so that they stay current on new discoveries in regards to treatments and massage.

Today there are approximately 300,000 - 350,000 massage therapists in the United States according to the American Massage Therapy Association. Regulations on massage are made on a state-to-state basis. Those wishing to offer massage therapy services in Steamboat must qualify under Colorado’s requirements before they can transfer their license from another state. At Life Essentials Day Spa not only do we require that all of our therapists be licensed, but owner Pam Peretz also has therapists work on her so she can determine whether their skills are up to the Life Essentials Day Spa standards.

At Life Essentials our therapists are polite, engaged, professional and skilled at what they do. Just as all people have their own individual specialties, each of our therapists excels in certain types of massage. Some prefer giving deep tissue massages, while other therapists have a more gentle nature suited to pre-natal and relaxation massages.

We recommend you discuss your preferences for massage with our front desk attendant before you book your massage so she can suggest the therapist who is best suited to your needs. If your therapist gives you the massage you have dreaming about, let us know when you are checking out so we can make a note in your file to book you with him or her again.

If you have any questions about the types of massage we offer or which therapist is best for your needs, please call us today.
